What you’ll need
Gather the following materials:
  • White Knight Squirts Gloss Metallic Red
  • White Knight Squirts Gloss Metallic Green
  • Door mat
  • Cardboard sheets, scissors & tape

How to Make a Festive DIY Door Mat

  • Work in a well-ventilated outdoor area before spraying.

  • Lay down cardboard or a drop sheet to protect surrounding surfaces from overspray.

  • Make sure your doormat is clean and free from dirt, dust and debris.

  • Choose the shapes or lettering you want to use on your mat.

  • Draw your design onto cardboard.

  • Cut out your shapes carefully using scissors.

  • Position the stencils on your doormat and move them around until you are happy with the layout.

  • Tape the stencils securely to help stop them from shifting while you spray.

  • Keep an extra piece of cardboard nearby to help block overspray around the stencil edges.

1Create Your Stencils

Now it is time to bring your design to life with colour.

  • Shake your White Knight Squirts cans thoroughly before use.

  • Hold the can around 15 to 20 cm from the surface.

  • Spray lightly over the stencil in thin, even layers.

  • Use Metallic Green for Christmas tree shapes or leafy festive designs.

  • Use Metallic Red for baubles, stars, lettering or feature details.

  • Alternate colours to create a fun festive effect.

  • Use a spare piece of cardboard to help protect nearby areas from overspray.

  • Avoid applying too much paint at once, as light coats give you more control.

  • Allow the paint to dry before handling the mat.

2Add Festive Colours

Once the paint is dry, it is time for the best part.

  • Carefully remove the tape and cardboard stencils.

  • Peel slowly to help keep the design edges neat.

  • Check that the paint is fully dry before placing the mat at your front door.

  • Style your entryway with Christmas décor, potted plants or a festive wreath.

  • Enjoy your custom Christmas welcome mat every time you arrive home.
