How to Make a Wooden Christmas Tree Using White Knight Squirts

When space is tight but the Christmas spirit is big, a DIY wooden tree is the perfect project. It’s simple, budget-friendly and surprisingly fun, especially when you add a hit of White Knight Squirts.

Here’s how to turn a humble stack of primed timber battens into a festive feature that actually fits your home (and your creativity).

What you’ll need
Gather the following materials:
  • Saw
  • Thumb tacks
  • String or twine
  • Hammer & nails
  • Baubles & decorations
  • 1 long battens for the trunk
  • 5 shorter battens for branches
  • White Knight Squirts - Metallic Green
  • Primed timber battens (42×12mm or 42×18mm)

How to Create a DIY Wooden Xmas Tree

  • Use one long batten as the trunk of your tree.

  • Measure the trunk piece at approximately 120 cm.

  • Cut five shorter battens to create the branches.

  • Measure the branch pieces at approximately 80 cm, 65 cm, 50 cm, 35 cm and 20 cm.

  • Each branch should get shorter as you move up the tree.

  • Don’t stress about perfect carpentry. This project is meant to feel handmade and fun.

  • Once cut, lay the pieces out on a protected surface so you can check the shape before assembling.

1Cut Your Timber to Size.

Now it is time to bring the tree shape together.

  • Lay the long trunk piece flat on your work surface.

  • Position the longest branch near the bottom of the trunk.

  • Continue placing each shorter branch above it, working your way up.

  • Keep the branches horizontal and evenly spaced.

  • Adjust the layout until you are happy with the Christmas tree shape.

  • Use a hammer and nails to attach each branch securely to the trunk.

  • Check that each piece feels stable before moving on to painting.

2Assemble Your Wooden Tree

Time for the fun part.

  • Move your assembled wooden tree to a well-ventilated outdoor area.

  • Place it on a drop sheet or cardboard to protect surrounding surfaces from overspray.

  • Shake your White Knight Squirts Metallic Green can thoroughly before use.

  • Spray the timber tree in light, even coats.

  • Allow the paint to dry before handling or decorating.

  • Once dry, press thumb tacks into the branches where you want decorations to hang.

  • Tie small loops of string or twine onto baubles, bells, stars or other festive decorations.

  • Hang your decorations from the thumb tacks.

  • Display your tree in your living room, entryway, balcony, patio or outdoor entertaining area.
